Open a bottle of Rootsar oil and breathe in. What you're smelling didn't begin in a lab or a factory — it began in the ground, months and sometimes years earlier, in the care of growers who understand that the best oils can't be rushed. The name Rootsar comes from "root" and sār, the Sanskrit word for essence. It's a promise about where we start: at the root, with the soil itself.

It Starts with the Soil

Great essential oil is decided long before distillation — it's decided in the field. A plant draws its character from where and how it grows: the climate, the altitude, the minerals in the earth, the timing of the rains. The same botanical grown in two different places can yield two very different oils.

That's why we source from some of the world's most respected growing regions for each specific plant. Our Lavender comes from Bulgaria — known for its cool, high-altitude conditions that yield a particularly soft, sweet floral character. Our Frankincense and Peppermint are sourced from India. Bergamot from Italy, Tea Tree from Australia, and Ylang Ylang from Madagascar.

Working with growing partners who know their land intimately means the plants are suited to where they're rooted — and that shows up, unmistakably, in the scent.

Captured Through Steam Distillation

Once harvested, the plant material is steam-distilled. Steam passes through the botanicals, coaxing out their aromatic compounds, and as it cools, a thin layer of pure essential oil separates from the water. No solvents, no shortcuts — just heat, water, and time.

We chose steam distillation because it's faithful to the plant. It captures the full, layered character of the botanical the way it actually exists in nature. Our Bergamot is the exception — it's cold-pressed from the Italian fruit peel, the traditional method that keeps its bright, citrusy top notes intact.

From Soil — to Soul

By the time an oil reaches you, it has traveled a long way: from Bulgarian lavender fields, Indian frankincense forests, the coastal groves of Italy — through the hands of growers and distillers, into a bottle on your shelf.

And then it begins a second journey — into your evening wind-down, your morning reset, your moments of stillness.

That's the full arc of the name. Soil is where the essence is born. Soul is where it lands — in the small, sensory rituals that make a day feel a little more cared for. Everything we do in between exists to keep that essence intact.

Verified Through Testing

A beautiful aroma isn't proof of purity on its own. Every Rootsar oil is backed by a Certificate of Analysis (COA) — verifying key quality markers for each batch. For oils like Lemongrass and Peppermint, GC (gas chromatography) assays verify the concentration of active aromatic compounds, giving a precise picture of what's actually in the bottle.

Our sourcing partner holds multiple international certifications — a level of accountability that matters when you're buying oils you'll use on your skin or breathe into your home.
